Questions
Straight answers.
The things shop owners actually ask before switching. Do not see yours? Ask us.
Getting started
Do I have to replace all the software I use now?
No. Gravy is modular. Every feature is a module you turn on or off from Settings, so you can keep the shop-management system, reviews tool or accounting you already like and use Gravy only for what you are missing, like a real website, digital inspections or payments.
How long until we are live?
Usually a few weeks. We hand-build your website and run Gravy alongside your current system first. Nothing customer-facing changes until you review it and approve.
Will switching disrupt my customers?
No. During setup Gravy shadows your current system in demo mode. No customer sees anything new, and no message goes out that you did not approve, until you flip the switch yourself.
The website
Is the website really custom, or a template?
The standard site, included in every plan, is built for your shop from your real brand, colors, photos, reviews and pages on a proven layout we use for every shop, which is why it is quick to set up. A Bespoke build is designed from scratch for your shop alone. Either way, you approve it before anything goes live.
Can I get just the website, or just the shop software?
Either. It is modular, so you can take one piece or the whole platform. Many shops start with the website or inspections and add more when they are ready.
Switching and integrations
Will it work with the tools I already use?
Gravy includes card payments, QuickBooks export for your books, and built-in parts lookup and pricing, and we add integrations over time. For anything we do not connect to yet, keep the tool you prefer and use Gravy for the rest, thanks to the modular design.
Does Gravy take a cut of card payments?
No. Card payments run through your own Stripe account at the rates Stripe charges you. Gravy adds no markup, no per-payment fee and no monthly payments fee, and your Stripe account, payouts and history stay yours if you ever leave.
Does texting work on day one?
Texting starts once the carriers approve your shop's business number, which usually takes a few days to two weeks. Every business that texts customers in the US goes through this step. Everything else in Gravy works while you wait.
Do my staff each get their own login?
Yes. Gravy has role-based dashboards, so the owner, service advisors and technicians each sign in and see only what their job needs. Owners get the money view, technicians get just their jobs.
Pricing, contracts and data
What does it cost?
A $99-a-month base gets you a professional website plus the essentials (online booking, reviews, dashboard and card payments). Texting is a $29 module with 1,000 texts a month. Every other feature is a la carte from $19 a month, so you pay only for what you use, and everything together is capped at $499. Two months free if you pay annually, plus a 30-day free trial. A bespoke custom site, with full SEO and everything a custom build includes, is a $3,000 to $4,000 one-time add-on. For most shops it is less than the three or four vendors they rent today.
How much does texting cost?
Texting is a $29-a-month module: your shop's own local number, registered with the carriers for you, with 1,000 texts a month for status texts, reminders, approvals, missed-call text-back and two-way messages. A text is up to 160 characters, sent or received, and calls to your texting number count too. Everything includes texting with 3,300 texts a month (2,700 on annual billing). We email you at 80%. If you run out, Gravy switches to email until the 1st, so there is never a surprise bill, or you can add 1,000 more texts for $30 that month. Already a Gravy shop from before texting became a module? It stays included in your plan. Already have your own Twilio account? Connect it instead and pay Twilio directly, with no Gravy limit.
Is there a guarantee?
Yes. If the work your customers approve and book through Gravy in your first 90 days of paid service adds up to less than you paid us, we refund every dollar. Your dashboard keeps the running count from your own records: repair orders customers approved through Gravy, plus online bookings at your average ticket.
Can I ask for a feature?
Please do. If it is reasonable, it is in Gravy within a week, and we answer every request within one business day. Ask at gravyauto.com/requests, where you can also see what shipped lately.
Do I get anything for referring another shop?
Yes: one free month for every shop you refer that signs up and pays its first month. Your referral link is on the "What Gravy did for you" page in your dashboard.
Is there a contract? Can I cancel?
No contracts. It is month to month, cancel anytime, and you can export all of your data anytime.
Who owns my data?
You do, always. Your customers, history and content are yours, and you can export everything in one click whenever you want.
Support
What kind of support do I get?
Direct, founder-led support that answers fast, plus done-for-you data migration and setup as part of onboarding, so you are not left to import everything yourself.
Is Gravy only for big shops?
No. Plans start at a one or two bay shop and scale up to multi-location and fleet operations.
